A Message About Palmettos
Palmetto Corn Snakes have a genetic trait that sometimes gives them a Bug-Eyed look. This does not negatively affect them and has not been proven to cause any problems for the snake as they grow up, eat, etc. There is no way to prevent this from occurring naturally as non-bug-eyed parents will sometimes have bug eyed hatchlings and bug-eyed parents will also not have bug eyed hatchlings. The same gene that gives them the white scales is the gene that sometimes gives the snake the bug-eyed look.
Watch this video from Sarah’s Snake Shop about Palmetto genetics and learn more about the genetics of this interesting morph! (Permission was granted by S. Mohr-Straley for the use of her video at Colubrid Fest 2024- Thank you!)
Palmetto- Incomplete Dominant
We work with Caramel (dark caramel spots), Snow (light yellow spots), Classic (black and red spots) and Amelanistic (red spots ) Palmetto Morphs. We are hopefully working with the genetics to produce Butter (dandelion yellow spots) Palmettos this year and Anery (black spots) next year.
Cinder- Recessive
We are working with various Cinder morphs with a variety of hets. One of the big Cinder pairings that is always catching people’s eyes are the Dark cinder motleys and stripes that we produce a limited number of each year. The belly on these snakes are a iridescent chrome color and the over all color are a dark cinder that comes from European lines. Other lines of Cinder that we are working with may produce Shatter, Hypo Cinder, and Peppermint morphs.
Okeetee- Dominant
We are very excited to work with SMR and Abbotts lines of Reverse Okeetee, Okeetees, Okeetee Scaleless and Extreme Okeetees. We have a love of the big wide bands found in Extreme Okeetees and bold patterns. Look for these in 2025!
Red Zepplin- pure locality
Pied-Sided- Homo/Het
We are working with Bloodred Pieds and Butter Bloodred Pieds. In the future we will be working with Granite Pieds! We are very excited about this project and hope to get some great babies with medium to high expression if we are lucky!
Also, in the future we will be working with the Red Zepplin locality of Okeetees with the very large wide white bands that can only be found in true Red Zepplin snakes. The bloodlines on our Red Zeps are pure, and can be traced back to the original founder of the morph.
