A Message about Palmetto Corn Snakes
Palmetto Corn Snakes have a genetic trait that sometimes gives them a Bug-Eyed look. This does not negatively affect them and has not been proven to cause any problems for the snake as they grow up, eat, etc. There is no way to prevent this from occurring naturally as non-bug-eyed parents will sometimes have bug eyed hatchlings and bug-eyed parents will also not have bug eyed hatchlings. The same gene that gives them the white scales is the gene that sometimes gives the snake the bug-eyed look.
Watch this video from Sarah’s Snake Shop about Palmetto genetics and learn more about the genetics of this interesting morph! (Permission was granted by S. Mohr-Straley for the use of her video at Colubridfest 2024- Thank you!)
